Deborah "Debbie" Ann Carrel

October 2, 1962 — March 1, 2020

Deborah “Debbie” Ann (Haran) Carrel, age 57, of Marshall, died on March 1, 2020 in Wyoming due to injuries from an automobile accident. She was born in Plainfield, New Jersey on October 2, 1962, the daughter of Jim and Tina Haran. She grew up in Livonia, Michigan, where she graduated from Stevenson High School. She attended Michigan State University, where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Communications. In her early career she worked for CBS in Southfield, Michigan and then at Albion College in the Alumni Department. After, she was employed by Hallmark in Marshall and currently was working at Ella’s Café at Oaklawn Hospital. She was united in holy matrimony with Craig Carrel on September 3, 1988 in St. Paul of the Cross in Redford, Michigan. Craig survives her along with their three children, Meredith (Taylor) Carrel-Lammert, Patrick Carrel and Ryan Carrel; her father and mother, Jim and Tina Haran; sisters, Patti Haran Hunt, Kathleen (Vic) Nettie, and Joanne (Scott) Davis; nieces and nephews, Emily Waldrop, Samantha Nettie, Jake Nettie, Joey Nettie, Camille Davis, Mary Claire Davis, Annabelle Davis, Cora Mae Davis, Amber Waters, Becky Waters, Chris (Melissa) Waters, Denise (Ian) Orton, Corbett (Kristen) Carrel, Cason (CC) Carrel, Megan Wilde, and Ryan Wilde; her brothers-in-law, Mike Waldrop and Jeff (Vikki) Carrel and two sisters-in-law, Leslie (Dennis) Waters and Sue (Max) Wilde. Debbie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joseph and Winifred Ruggiero and Walter and Margaret Haran; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jeff and Bonnie Carrel. Anyone who had the good fortune of knowing Debbie would confirm that she was amazing. The best singular word to describe her was “loving”. She was a loving mother to her three children as well as a motherly figure to her nieces and nephews, in addition to close friends’ children. She loved to throw Halloween parties for her family and friends as well as the annual Christmas eve party to bring her friends and family together on a special occasion. Debbie would drive anywhere no matter how long it would take to support her children, nieces and nephews or friends. She loved her children. She loved her family. She loved her friends. Debbie was happily married to Craig, her best friend. They raised a wonderful family together in a home built on strong values, faith, and most of all love. They were always on the go as a family with Debbie leading the charge as the tireless planner of trips. Some notable family trips were skiing, 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Games, Disneyworld, baseball games and countless other adventures. As their children grew up and graduated college, Debbie and Craig would take frequent quick trips to explore national parks, historical sites, presidential homes, and other museums. Their love for one another continued to grow stronger each year. Always on the go, Debbie seemed to make time for a wide-range of interests, including being active in the St. Mary Church, looking out for her sisters and parents, gardening, decorating their family home, crafting and of course watching sports (most often the Tigers or Spartans). One of Debbie’s most admirable qualities were in the more subtle way she always put others first. Debbie knew just what others needed and the best time to give it. She worked tirelessly in taking care of others with her famous care packages, homemade cooking and heart-felt notes. We can all learn from Debbie’s special way of finding the positive in everyone and every situation. She taught us many lessons that we can carry forward with us forever. Before she passed she was doing what she loved, road tripping with her best friend and skiing a bluebird day with her family. On Sunday, March 8, 2020 friends may visit with the family from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. Following the visitation, a rosary service will be held at 6:00 p.m., followed by a celebration of life service at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068.
