Steven S. Clerkin Rock Springs - Steven S. Clerkin, 55, of Rock Springs died Saturday, June 11, 2016 after a sudden illness. He was born August 3, 1960 in Ft. Collins, Colorado, the son of Terrance Clerkin and Margaret Burdg Clerkin. He attended schools in Ft. Collins and graduated from Rocky Mountain High School with the class of 1979. He married Christie Chitwood October 31, 1981 in Superior. Steve began his employment with Jim Bridger Power Plant in 1981 as a helper, where he met his bride. He worked different positions there over the course of 25 years until he retired as an auxiliary operator in 2006. During high school, Steve learned the masonry trade. Later he also had training as an EMT and was a firefighter II certified. Both qualifications were used at his job with the power plant and as a volunteer with the Reliance Fire Department, a wildland firefighter with Sweetwater County Fire Department and under Presidential Executive Order during the shuttle recovery mission in 2003. As a wildlife advocate and enthusiast, Steve was an avid hunter and trapper who loved the mountains. He also enjoyed salsa gardening, his family, watching MMA, watching westerns, and doing ancestry research. Survivors include his wife Christie Clerkin of Reliance; son Tyler Clerkin and wife Jennifer of Rock Springs; daughter Jessi Adkison and husband Joshua of Rock Springs; sister Sharon Clerkin of Denver; brother Bryan Clerkin and wife Mindy of Laramie; grandchildren Marisa, Ashton, Eilana, Alexavier, Nazalie, Zairic, Zameson, and Sephira; two aunts and one uncle; numerous cousins; seven nieces and 3 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Terrance and Margaret Clerkin, maternal & paternal grandparents, and many of his aunt and uncles. Cremation has taken place at Fox Crematory, Rock Springs.
