Afton McMillan

Rock Springs – Afton McMillan, 81, of Rock Springs died Monday, February 28, 2005 at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County, Rock Springs after a short illness. Afton was born July 25, 1923 in Ogden, Utah the daughter of George and Mattie Whittaker Baxter. She attended schools in Reliance, Wyoming and graduated from Reliance High School with the class of 1941. She then went to Warm Springs, Georgia and spent 3 years at the polio clinic where she underwent ankle surgery and had the opportunity to have Christmas dinner with President Roosevelt. She worked at Hillfield, Utah as a finger printer during World War II. On September 11, 1947 she married Ronald McMillan. They were married fifty-seven and a half years. She was employed as a clerk at Sears until her retirement after fifteen years. She was a member of local women’s clubs, the Eagles, and the VFW. Her interest included spending summers in Pinedale, Wyoming with her family and friends. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints. Survivors include her husband Ronald McMillan; one son, Dennis McMillan and friend Sharon Robinson of Rock Springs; and brother-in-law, Ivan Woodburn of Hawaii. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Louis. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2005 at Fox Funeral Home, 2800 Commercial Way, Rock Springs where friends may cal 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2005 and one hour prior to the services. Bishop Blaine Johnson officiating. Entombment will be at the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the home of Ronald McMillan, 1023 Marchant, Rock Springs.
