Dixon "Dick" Nebeker Christensen

Dixon (Dick) Nebeker Christensen, 87, passed away at his home June 18th, 2015 in Douglas Wyoming. Dixon was born in Manila, Utah on June 22, 1927 to Clifford A. Christensen and Afton Nebeker Christensen. Dick was born and raised on the Birch Spring Ranch in Manila Utah where he and his wife Florence raised their family. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Manila Ward bishopric for twenty years, the Lyman and Green River Stake High Councils, and served in the Vernal Temple. Dick was an avid horseman and raised, sold and traded hundreds of quarter horses. He enjoyed team roping with his friends and son Bruce and watching his children participate in High School rodeos. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brother Von and his Uncle Ned and camping with his family in the Wind River and the Uinta mountains. He was a 4-H leader and an active member of the Daggett County Lions Club. He also served for five years on the Soil Conservation Board and was a surveyor on the construction of the Flaming Gorge Dam. He drove school bus for several years in Manila and McKinnon, owned and operated a sawmill, and enjoyed driving truck for Steinaker and Anderson Trucking. He was a heavy equipment operator for Black Butte Coal for 12 years where he made life long friends. He lived in several places in Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana but Manila was always his home. His last few years were spent in Douglas Wyoming. Dick had a reputation of being kind and considerate to everyone that knew him, and helped numerous people throughout his life. His greatest joy was his family and enjoying time with them. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Florence LaRue Schofield Christensen, of Douglas; children Grant and wife Johnne Christensen of Rock Springs, Bruce and wife Brenda Christensen of Fort Bridger Wyoming, Shelly and husband Jim Creaser of Douglas; sisters Mary Jane Heninger, Dahle Briggs, Laura Jean Youngberg, Claire Reed, and Louis Lowell; seventeen grandchildren, and twenty-six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, daughters Betty Rae Tinker and Donell Pechacek, brother Von Christensen, and sister Joan Briggs. Funeral services will be held at 11am June 27th, 2015 in the Manila LDS Church, Manila Utah with a viewing 9:30am until time of service. There will also be a viewing from 6pm to 8pm Friday, June 26, 2015 at Fox Funeral home, 2800 Commercial Way, Rock Springs. Interment will take place in the Daggett County Cemetery.
