Donald “Doc” James Mattinson Sr., 79, of Rock Springs returned home to his Heavenly Father on October 23, 2023. Donald was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming on January 20, 1944 to Ralph Mattinson and Helen Knezovich. He married Donna Acker on February 2, 1963 in Rock Springs. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Provo Temple.
Donald attended schools in Bitter Creek and Superior, Wyoming. He graduated from Superior High School in 1962. He later spent 43 years as a trona miner. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed watching sports, especially football. He also loved spending his time outdoors and with his family.
He is survived by his wife Donna, five children, and eight grandchildren; Monica Mattinson of Boise, Idaho and her children Matt and Madisson Prater, Elaine (Ken) Lorimer of Rock Springs, Don (Kimberly) Mattinson of Rock Springs and son Kyle, Darren (Heather) Mattinson of Rock Springs and their sons Nathan, Bryan and Shawn, and Lindsey (Mike) Sautebin of Meridian, Idaho and their daughters Avery and Addie Lee. Donald is also survived by his brother Ralph Mattinson of Rock Springs, sister Ella (Maurice) Larsen of Rock Springs, brother Gerald (Carey) Mattinson of Laramie, Judy Mattinson (Walter Pivic) of Rock Springs, Linda Acker and John Pallesen of Rock Springs, and Mark and Elaine Chernine of Las Vegas.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Helen Mattinson, brother Dennis Mattinson, sister Sharon White and her husband Kim, twin sons Brent and Bryan Mattinson, and in-laws William and Elaine Acker.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, October 27th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, 2055 Edgar Street, Rock Springs, Wyoming. A viewing will take place one hour prior to services at the church. Internment will take place in the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.
