Eugene “Gene” Cox Rock Springs - Eugene “Gene” Cox, 89, of Rock Springs died Monday, March 21, 2016 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born June 1st, 1926 in Gunnison, Colorado, the son of Bayless and Burtha Cox. He attended schools in Rock Springs. He joined the navy in 1943 and served on the USS Stormes Destroyer and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was a member of the LDS church, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, the American Legion, and the Masonic Lodge. He married Mary Ellen Larson on October 8th, 1949. Together they had three sons. Marko “Mark” Eugene Cox, Michael “Mickey” Ben Cox, and Robert “Bob” William Cox. He was the “World’s Best Dancer”, and I will miss that. After the Navy, he worked as a surveyor, worked on the railroad, and became an electrician with the IBEW #322 Local, and taught welding technology at WWCC for 7 years. He retired in May 1990. He was truly a jack of all trades and a master of all! His interests included hunting, fishing, dancing, square dance calling, and spending time with his family. He had bought land in the Upper Green River Basin in 1967, where they built their cabin which burned down in 1993. He and his wife traveled to Hawaii, Haiti, Jamaica, Cancun, and the Virgin Islands. Survivors include his wife of 66 years Mary Ellen Cox; son Bob Cox; grandchildren BJ, Dillon, Bryon, Jamie, and Chelsie; great-grandchildren Calie and Lindsey Cox, AJ Muller, Daylin and Ian Cox, Morgan Rael, Shelby Cox, Zack Houston, Alicia Cox, Dillion and Abigail Cowgill; great-great-grandchildren Dawson and Macy Muller. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sister Alma Faccio, and sons Mark and Mickey Cox. Funeral services with military honors will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the Rock Springs LDS Stake Center, 2055 Edgar St., Rock Springs. There will be a viewing 6-8 pm Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Fox Funeral Home, 2800 Commercial Way, Rock Springs, and Thursday one hour prior to the services at the church. Cremation will follow at Fox Crematory, Rock Springs.
