Kathryne Mau Smith Rock Springs - Kathryne Mau Smith, 93, died Friday, May 30, 2014 at Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River. She was born March 8, 1921 in Laramie, Wyoming, the daughter of Albert Mau and Margaret Kennedy Mau. She was raised in Cokeville, Wyoming and graduated from Rock Springs High School with the class of 1939. She was also a graduate from the University of Wyoming. She married Jack M. Smith January 8, 1943 in Hobbs, New Mexico. They lived in Reliance before moving to Rock Springs and always held a special love of the coal camps and the people they knew. Her husband preceded her in death February 3, 1999. She was a teacher with School District #1 for many years. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood Chapter L. She was also a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Community. Her interests were the Wyoming Cowboys and her family. Survivors include her son Jim Smith and wife Sue of Rock Springs; daughter Nancy Slaughter and husband Brad of Surprise, Arizona; nine grandchildren, Jenny, Jack, Zac and Maggie Smith, Shannon Beveridge, Brad Slaughter, Tara Turai, Jamie Gossett, and Casey Smith; 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alberto and Margaret Mau, husband Jack M. Smith, son Jack A. Smith, grandson James Smith, brothers Frank and William Mau. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Monday, June 2, 2014 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, A St. and Broadway, Rock Springs where friends may call one hour prior to the services. Interment will take place in the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.
