Walter William Burgess

         Rock Springs - Walter William “Bill” Burgess, of Rock Springs, died June 23, 2016 at his home.  He was born January 19, 1926 in Knox County, Ohio, the son of Walter Platt Burgess and Dorothy M. Brown Burgess.
    He attended schools in Mount Vernon, Ohio and graduated from high school in Howard, Ohio with the class of 1944.  He married Joanne T. Petty on December 6, 1952 in Red River Arsenal, Texas.
    He was drafted on February 1, 1951 and served in the US Army during the Korean War.
     He worked for almost 50 years, many of those as a heavy equipment operator, retiring from Black Butte Coal in August 1991.
    His interests included hunting, fishing, golfing and bowling. When Bill was asked how he wanted to be remembered, Bill replied “He raised a good family”.
    Survivors include his spouse Joanne T. Burgess of Rock Springs; sons Doug and Dan Burgess of Rock Springs; daughter Christine Sichter of Daniel, Wyoming; 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Dorothy Burgess, older brothers Allan and Jim Burgess, sister Betty Fox, and daughter-in-law Punky Burgess.
    Cremation has taken place at Fox Crematory, Rock Springs.
    At his request, no services will be held.
